John Silva

John Paulino Silva, Jr. was born in Carmel December 25, 1952. He attended St Angela’s, where his academic career could have ended due to an incident that resulted in Sister Rosaline’s falling through a trap door. He moved on to High School in Pacific Grove and after reunions later in life remembered those awkward days with great joy and admiration because of his core group of classmates. His math skills prompted an offer from the Naval Post-Graduate program that groomed potential programmers. He graduated with his 5-year degree in Electrical Engineering from Fresno State while married to his first wife, Shelly. They had two great kids. (Paul became a math teacher and had one son, and Mary is a stay-at-home Mom with 3 sons and a daughter and a Bachelors degree in Child Development). In 1985 John remarried Cindy Davis (Masters in Soviet Studies) of Carmel and Fresno. John and Cindy founded an IT firm as UNIX programmers that year and moved to hardware in the 90’s through the Windows client/server transition. John was known for his dry sense of humor. Even after his diagnosis of a pancreatic cancer in February 2013, he kept us in intellectual stitches. In home Hospice and later in Hospice, surrounded by the techs he raised and trained, his family, and friends, he quipped and confounded us with his genius. He told a Hospice volunteer that reading to him would keep him alive and sharp. “What shall I read to you?” she asked. “War and Peace.” On April 5, 2013, John passed.
