In Memory

PACIFIC GROVE, CA – A native of Pacific Grove, Robert Patrick "Pat" Mahaney died peacefully at home on July 14, 2014 surrounded by loved ones. Pat is survived by his wife and best friend, Stacey Nightingale Mahaney.
"A man of integrity, Pat taught me how to slow down, speak less, listen more, how to build a one-match fire, what's behind a shower escutcheon, how to dig a French drain, put on chains, use a chain saw, ski, hook up a gas line, know my tools, always change my oil, question authority, live with grace and dignity, and to always sit down and eat at the dinner table with the one(s) you love."
Pat is also survived by his siblings, Mark Mahaney, Pete Mahaney (Kathy), Paul Mahaney (Sherri), Molly Wardell (Keith) Susan Mahaney, Kate Daniel (Chris); 11 nieces and nephews and countless friends too numerous to list, but not forgotten. Pat was predeceased by his mother and father, Barbara and Bob Mahaney and his sister-in-law, Linda Mahaney.
Those who truly knew Pat would remember him as a self-sufficient man's man, a bit of a rascal, with a stoic demeanor. But beneath his armor he bore a heart of gold. Behind the scenes Pat was a silent servant, helping others, rarely drawing attention to himself. He was always ready to lend a hand, someone you could count on to get the job done. Pat was a man of his word; what you see is what you get. He possessed an extraordinary work ethic; work was his hobby. He enjoyed traveling, camping, music, dancing in his healthy days, a good strong fire, and a cold beer with friends. In his latter days he especially enjoyed the love and fellowship of his spiritual family and his God.
A celebration of Pat's life will be held on August 10, 2014 at the Mayflower Church of Pacific Grove, 141 14th Street at 1:00pm. A potluck celebration immediately follows at American Legion Hall in Monterey.
Pat and his family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Pat's devoted friend and neighbor, Linda Collins, to Matt Wallbeck, Hospice nurse, and to Dr. Gina Heal for their exceptional care.
